Creationism is not science!

January 30, 2004

According to this article in the New York Times, Georgia state education officials are removing the word “evolution” from the curriculum. The superintendent, Kathy Cox, claims that evolution is a buzz word. Uh, Darwin published “The Origin of Species” in 1859. That’s some buzz word that keeps its buzz for 144 years.

Georgia’s educators have just ensured that their schoolchildren will now carry on the stereotype of the dumb Southerner. Imagine these kids getting to college and taking Biology 101 having no knowledge of the concept of evolution. They wouldn’t have a prayer (pun intended).

Look, I’m a practicing Catholic. And even I know that faith that God created the Earth is not science. There’s no evidence to back it up, so you can’t teach it as science! Come on people, get a brain.

The Loss of an MSU legend

Read about his life here.

You would think that after a nice long three day weekend, I would be nice and rested. But no, the house had other ideas… We just got our latest water bill last week, and it was about double what it usually is. We figured it was probably because of two leaks: one in the toilet upstairs (leaking from the tank into the bowl, causing the tank to top itself off occasionally) and one in the sink next the the washing machine in the basement. Read on to hear all the fun escapades from this latest trip into homeowner repair hell.

Curses! Back to the old phone number

January 9, 2004

As you may know, we had a bit of a dispute with our telephone company, Cavalier. So we decided to switch to Verizon, believing that we could get a very similar deal to the one we have now (local phone, DSL, cheap long distance, for a good price). Well, on Wednesday, the Verizon guy came to hook us up. This was a day earlier than expected, as Cavalier was scheduled to come the following day to disconnect that line. Turned out the Verizon guy was able to keep Cavalier connected as the second phone line, while connecting Verizon to the primary line. So I posted on the main page that our new phone number was active. Oops, I spoke too soon.
